Urban fashion is different from normal portrait work, while the standard portrait wants to make the subject look “pretty” and “nice” an urban fashion photograph want the image to connect with the viewers by attitude and to have them put themselves in the photograph wearing the same cloths as the subject in the picture.
Enviroment has alot to say in the photograph, not all fashion pictures are made in a studio, and a good number of urban fashion photographs are made in the enviroment that their demographic is in.
Here are some examples.
The demographic that I am trying to appeal to with these photos are Kansas City males between the ages of 15 and 26. As seen in the photos above the subjects really didn’t make eye contact with the camera, and that may vex people out there, when im in a group taking photographs of one subject everyone is saying “Look over here, look at the camera.” The photo can begin to get another feel to it if you shift your view, have your subject not look directly into the camera, have them look off picture sometimes.
Here are some more photos.
The enviroment that the subject is photographed in can have more impact than just with having the ”eye contact” with the subject.
Here is a wider shot of the same image to show more of the enviroment.
Here are some more photos to look at to get a feel for urban fashion.
Here is one last photo, I feel that this best shows that a subject in an urban fashion photograph doesn’t have to look “nice” to make a good photograph.
Yeah I know he looks possessed, but this photo has been getting me nothing but good feedback.
Stay tuned for my next post on urban fashion, concerning female subjects.

Now THIS is what I call urban fashion, and his eyes are BOMB! LoL. Ur on this fashion tip aren’t you? That’s what up! I’m diggin’ these photos too! Anyway, I didn’t know how else to contact you but I wanted to put you up on game about Toyota’s “If Looks Could Kill” series since your into fashion. Bianca is a bad one, so make sure to check her out. Her style is fly and she always steps out looking so fabulous. Check her out.
The webisodes follow an aspiring fashion assistant, Bianca Turner (played by Femi Emiola, Wicked Wicked Games), who is a prime example of a woman who’s got it going on. I’m talking the dream job, a man who’s got all the ladies drooling, and the spice to keep it all together when hell hits the fan. Think James Bond meets Sanaa Lathan in “Something New”, Bianca is the girl who isn’t afraid to run in her Louboutin heels!

The fifth episode-Devil In a Blue Dress- has been available since 7/14, but it’s not too late to catch up and tune in. I work with Toyota, so take my word for it.
I’m sure that you will be reeled in, so don’t be surprised when you are. Also, don’t forget to hit me up with the scoop on your thoughts, or comments from others, about the webisodes.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
